The first Europeans came as traders in the 1710s, although Native Americans populated what is currently the Pittsburgh region for over 10,000 years. In April 1794, Pittsburgh was officially named with its current spelling. It's one of the few American cities with an 'h' at the end of the 'burg' suffix, and was breifly reffered to as 'Pittsburg', but in 1911, the official spelling was restored. |
